This document aims to explain everything a first year medical student needs to know about the liver in a clear and concise manner, with the aid of bulletpoints and diagrams.

Originally created in 2012 as a set of lecture notes for my own use, this document aims to complement the lectures given under the Homeostasis Panel at the Cardiff University School of Medicine. All material covered in lectures is explored in detail, helping students to understand and apply the teachings.

The gastrointestinal tract (GIT) comprises the stomach, duodenum, jejunum, ileum, colon, rectum and anal canal. The GIT and oesophagus form the alimentary canal. The basic structure of the walls of the alimentary canal has been described on the "Oral Cavity and Oesophagus" page.
