Gastrulation Lecture

Following the implantation of the blastocyst into the endometrium of uterus, the embryo begins another important embryological process called gastrulation. Gastrulation is the formation of the three distinct germ layers - the ectoderm, the mesoderm and the endoderm. The ectoderm is the outermost layer of the developing embryo and it consists of cells that eventually give rise to the integumentary system (the outer skin, nails and hair) as well as the nervous system (central and peripheral system). The mesoderm is the middle layer of the developing embryo and it consists of cells that eventually give rise to the musculoskeletal system (bone, cartilage, skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle, smooth muscle), cardiovascular system (the heart and blood vessels), excretory system (kidneys) and reproductive system (gonads). The endoderm is the innermost layer of the developing embryo and it gives rise to the epithelial layer of the digestive tract, lungs, pancreas, bladder, liver as well as the thyroid gland, parathyroid gland and thymus.

7-hair-care-tips-that-works

Hair care is an overall term for parts of hygiene and cosmetology involving the hair on the human head. Hair care will differ according to one's hair type and according to various processes that can be applied to hair. All hair is not the same; hair is a manifestation of human diversity. In this article, We Pulse Designer Fashion Team will share some tips, maintaining your hair is relatively easy with the right kind of steps. Hair is made of protein, so keeping a healthy diet and good hygiene is an essential part of maintaining luscious locks. These are some other tips about hair care, and what you can do at home to get unbelievably beautiful hair. 1. Washing hair properly - Wash hair sparingly and use a good-quality shampoo. Washing hair too often can leave hair dried out, leached of its natural oils, and may damage your hair. Aim to shampoo your hair at most every other day or even only twice a week. 2. Try shampoos that do not contain sulfates or parabens. Sulfates are the chemicals that make shampoos lather up.[1] Parabens are preservatives that cause irritation and eye problems after prolonged use[2]. Both of these chemicals aren't healthy for you or the environment so try to use shampoos with natural cleansers. Choose a shampoo that suits your hair type. Don't just go for any old shampoo; go for the shampoo that works for your hair type. Typical types include (but are not limited to): Curly or coarse hair probably wants frizz-minimizing and softening shampoo. Straight or oily hair probably wants a gentle shampoo designed for daily washing. Colored or treated hair probably needs a shampoo that's fortified with extracts or amino acids, because treating your hair is essentially damaging it. Dry hair probably needs shampoos with glycerin and collagen to help restore some moisture into the hair. 3. Use conditioner that matches your hair type, length, and treatment damage. A good rule of thumb is to condition every time you shampoo your hair, although very processed or dyed hair probably needs a little more love than natural hair. Deep condition once a week. Use a store-bought hair care product, or venture out on your own and try a homemade solution. Deep conditioning is very good for your hair. It keeps hair soft, healthy and moisturized. 4. Condition your hair properly based on hair type: For fine hair: If you have very limp hair, try a botanical oil treatment before you shampoo. Use lavender or tea tree oil, for example, and work it under your cuticles before shampooing. Wash shampoo away and apply conditioner from the mid-shaft down to the end. Leave in for a minute before washing. For medium to thick hair, use a moisturizer with natural hydrators. Keep your conditioner light. Apply conditioner all over your head and let stay for 2-3 minutes. 5. Be careful about using hair care products with too much protein. Too much protein can leave your hair feeling desiccated and brittle. While protein is the building block of healthy hair, use conditioners that come with balanced ingredients. Frizz-control serum can be used in small quantities to tame frizzies. Make sure you do not use too much and wash once a week with a deep-cleanse shampoo to avoid build-up, which will leave hair looking dull and flaky. 6. Rinse your hair with vinegar before shampooing, twice a year. Doing this helps to make your hair look shinier and cleaner; plus, it treats dandruff. Use 1 part vinegar (preferably organic apple cider vinegar) to 3 parts warm water, then rinse and wash your hair as normal. 7. Moisturize your hair. Use five oils: almond, castor, olive, coconut and lavender oils. Mix together equal proportions of each. Alternately, use egg oil. Apply to the hair and leave in for four hours prior to showering out. Repeat twice a week. Falsely elevated capillary glucose and ketone levels and use of skin lightening creams

Hyperglycaemia associated with ketosis reflects severe insulin deficiency that mandates immediate insulin therapy. Point-of-care devices to measure capillary glucose have become essential in diabetes management.1 Management of hyperglycaemic crisis has also been improved by the measurement of β-hydroxybutyrate in a fingerprick blood specimen. The method is quick, accurate, and reliable,2 3 4 and recommended to medical care providers and patients.2 5 6 Here we report two cases of misleadingly high capillary glucose and ketone measurements that could have been prevented by careful hand washing. We also identify the chemical compound, hydroquinone, that interferes with capillary results.

Comparison of non-surgical treatments for women diagnosed with high-grade VIN (precancerous changes of the vulva related to HPV-infection) | Cochrane

This is an update of a Cochrane review previously published in 2011. Vulval intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN) is a skin condition affecting the vulval skin, which, if left untreated, may become cancerous. Distressing symptoms include itching, burning, and soreness of the vulva or painful intercourse. There may be discolouration and various other visible changes to the vulval skin. There are two types of VIN: the most common type (now known as usual-type VIN or uVIN) is associated with infection of the cells of the vulva with a virus called human papilloma virus (HPV or wart virus), whereas the other type (known as differentiated-type VIN) is not associated with this viral infection. As HPV infection is common, uVIN is becoming more common in younger women (under 50 years of age). At the moment treatments are aimed at relief of distressing symptoms and to ensure that the condition does not become cancerous. The most common treatment option for women with this condition has been surgery to remove the affected skin areas. Surgery, however, does not guarantee a cure, can be disfiguring, and may result in physical and psychological problems in younger women who are sexually active.

Clonidine applied to the skin for neuropathic pain | Cochrane

The aim of this review was to examine how clonidine applied to the skin works in people with neuropathic pain. To answer this question, we searched medical databases up to 17 September 2014. We found only two studies that provided information. They lasted 8 weeks and 12 weeks and included a total of 344 participants with painful diabetic neuropathy (PDN). One drug manufacturer supported both studies, which were of low quality.

Is anyone else having problems bathing? I have investigated!

After seeing a lot of Nilaqua on the internet recently, I decided to give the product a go. I was a little sceptical as I haven't heard of it before and dry shampoo products never seem to work that well. However, the lady at norinse.co.uk assures me Nilaqua is a water based product and is NOT a dry shampoo, so works really well. Its kinda like a liquid solution which you rub into the hair, creating a bubbly lather and then towel off the residue and with that the dirt is lifted away with the towel. I bought it to help care for my mum who is currently wheelchair bound and her shower is such a nightmare to get in and out off. My mum is very proud of her appearance so not washing is very humiliating for her. I brought a 200ml bottle, it cost around £4.50 we've been using it every couple of days and has lasted for about 2 weeks. So I shall be buying the larger size next time. It leaves the hair soft, manageable and most of all clean!! So would really would recommend! You do have to get used to it though, applying enough so the hair is saturated! My colleague noticed it is now in the NHS catalogue, so have approached purchasing to get some shampoo and body wash in for our palliative unit. Should save a lot of time compare to bed bathing & have them nice and clean for family visiting. I'll write another update after I have tested it I the hospital to see how it does in a ward environment.
