What does getting into Maxillofacial Surgery involve?

I am thinking of pursuing a career in maxillofacial surgery - if anyone has gone down this route, can you give me some indication of the competitiveness of actually applying. I have been looking into it, but haven't quite found out all the information I'd like. The way I see it, surely it can't be as competitive as certain disciplines purely for the fact that you need to do dentistry as well as medicine, or are there very few places available? Also what sort of grades would be expected?

Any help/advice would be appreciated!

NB: I am a medic, hoping to continue with dentistry afterwards, rather than the other way round

Many thanks!

I am a currently at medical school having done a dental degree first.

Regarding NTN numbers there are usually numbers for most people who are good enough, with the usual, both degrees, MRCS, publications/presentations caveats.
