What exactly means diuresis?

I always thought diuresis means (normal) urine production or urine excretion, but practically every single online dictionary (Webster, dictionary.com, medterms.com...) says diuresis means increased urination.

Any thoughts?

I would consider diuresis on it's own to mean the production of urine by the kidneys, as is normal in a healthy person.

Increased diuresis (i.e. excreting more fluid and electrolytes) could possibly be used synonymously with the term polyu

Yes, it does help. I was thinking was literally the only one who was considering diuresis as a normal urine production.
